2019 came and went by like the winds of autumn that we now thrive in. But you can still ride the hot wave and give your kitchen the killer facelift you know it deserves. Last year, kitchens were all about cozy banquette-style seating to striking two-toned kitchen cabinetry. So let’s see what are some of the trends that we can still look forward to as we close out 2019.
We scoured numerous sources online and curated some of the niftiest and boldest trends that we or any other kitchen mark ever come across. Look to these kitchen trendsetters as we head towards 2020:
1. Open Shelving
One of the coolest 2019 trends that we’ve seen is replacing kitchen upper cabinets with metal, glass or wood shelving. This style is mainly inspired by retail and hotel spaces that add more to the overall bold statements that many desire to make for their own homes, letting go of the minimalist trend that was the tops years ago.
2. Quartz Countertops
Even though we’ve witnessed a lot of countertop materials come and go, the hot streak of brilliant quartz finishes is still burning as of today, making it one of the most demanding materials for customers everywhere.
And apart from looking timeless, quartz is a virtually invulnerable material as it is known for its hard surface. The only thing that you need to be wary of is excessive heat as hot pots can easily damage the material.
3. Natural Stone
Natural stone balances out all of that color. Natalie Meyers from Los Angeles says that people are swooning over Mother Natura’s abstract canvases and are using natural stone in everything other than countertops. Designers are continuously applying stone material to waterfall edges and tall backsplashes. This helps carry the stone all the way to the ceiling sometimes. You can also make hood vent covers and drawer fronts out of natural stone as well.
4. Darker Stone Countertops
Dark countertops broke out in the early 2000s and in a big way no less. Of course, we’re referring to that shiny black speckled granite that usually teamed up with white or cherry wood cabinetry. Now 2019 has a different approach for dark countertops and cabinetry. For one thing, leathered or honed finish for the stone (typically matte) is all the talk these days. If you want beautiful with a side order of modern and classic all at once, look no further than this trend.
5. White Kitchens Have Left the Building
The classic white cabinetry will always have a place in our hearts, but folks are looking for something that’s more bold, rich and intoxicating. In other words, the right colors besides the usual white can give your kitchen more personality and finish.
Besides, it is basically common sense that white kitchens are harder to keep clean on a daily basis. So wouldn’t it be better to bring some distinctive hues to make the dirt that collects over time, less obvious? Of course, it would.
6. Matte Black Everything
Honestly, who doesn’t love a shade of matte finishes? Any matte black appliance or cabinetry would look regal and attractive, not to mention, easier to clean and would hardly ever go out of style thanks to their cool theme. Matte black is not only growing more in popularity but also adds a subtle contrast to wooden cabinets and the more traditional Shaker-style kitchens.
7. Linear Lighting
Lighting is following the seamless kitchen theme of 2019. One would consider linear lighting to be some kind of super modern fixture, but it doesn’t really have to be.
